One of the three people accused of a murder in Mt. Vernon earlier this year has been convicted of first degree murder and murder involving mob action following a jury trial in Jefferson County.
The Mt. Vernon Police Department reports 68-year-old Eddie Bennett of Mt. Vernon is scheduled to be sentenced on August 28.
This conviction stems from a previous investigation into the death of 57-year-old Patrick Williamson this past spring. Authorities found his body early in the morning of March 24 in the 600 Block of South 15th Street.
Another suspect accused in the case is 66-year-old Peter Harris of Mt. Vernon. He is charged with two counts of 1st degree murder involving a robbery, once count of 1st degree murder and obstructing justice. His trial is set to start July 29.
The third is 60-year-old Laura Lee Beneway of Bonnie. She is charged with two counts of 1st degree murder involving a robbery, one count of concealing a homicidal death, and one count of obstructing justice. She has a pre-trial hearing set for July 2.
