A female correctional officer with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department suffered significant injuries after a female inmate punched her in the face.

Sheriff Kyle Bacon reports the officer was moving the inmate, 29-year-old Amber Sutton of Christopher, to a different holding unit within the jail facility on Thursday morning.

That's when Sutton activated a wall mounted fire alarm and hit the officer in the face with her fist.

Sutton was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Battery, both felonies.

Bacon says this is a reminder about how dangerous jobs law enforcement jobs can be.
