A Carbondale man has been arrested on various charges after eye witnesses say he was brandishing a knife and yelling at customers at a Carbondale business.

The Carbondale Police Department reports 46-year-old Shiron Smith is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Disorderly Conduct and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The incident occurred late Thursday night at a business in the 500 block of East Main Street.

Police arrested Smith in the 100 block of South Graham Street.

He initially complied with officers and stopped, but then attempted to flee on foot and ran for a brief moment before falling down.

Smith refused the officers’ commands and efforts to place him in handcuffs.

Once he was taken into custody, officers found Smith was still in possession of a large knife. He was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
