A Cape Girardeau man has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for first-degree murder related to the death of his wife in Carbondale.

The Jackson County State's attorney says 30-year-old Gregory Hopkins will serve 100 percent of his sentence.

On January 4, 2023, Carbondale Police responded to the 1100 block of East College Street.

Investigators determined 26-year-old Gloria Hopkins of Carbondale was the victim of a domestic violence incident with her husband, Gregory Hopkins.

Hopkins fled Carbondale and traveled to the Los Angeles, California area. Los Angeles Police officers located him and he was brought back to Jackson County to await trial.

Last September, just four days before trial, Hopkins pleaded guilty to first degree murder.
