A murder sentence sends a Goreville man to prison for up to 50 years

A Johnson County man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.

Illinois State Police reports 71-year-old Larry Cavitt of Goreville was found guilty in February in the murder of 51-year-old Joseph Geyman.

The sentence includes 25 years for First Degree Murder plus an additional 25 years due to the statutory firearm enhancement.

Geyman died in August 2021 on Dutchman Lake Road in Tunnel Hill.
