The Carbondale Police Department has responded to 37 reports of burglaries involving motor vehicles.

The majority of these cases involved vehicles that were left unlocked or had no visible signs of forced entry.

Police warn that thieves often check car doors at random, and leaving a vehicle unlocked or with valuables in plain sight makes it an easy target.

To help prevent becoming a victim of these crimes, the police recommend several precautions.

These include locking vehicle doors at all times, parking in secure or well-lit areas, keeping windows fully closed, removing valuables from the vehicle when unattended, and never leaving keys inside the car.

By following these tips, residents can help reduce the likelihood of vehicle break-ins.

Carbondale Police Chief and Interim City Manager Stan Reno has expressed concern over the rising number of vehicle burglaries and is urging the community to stay vigilant.

“We are seeing an increase in vehicle burglaries, especially with unlocked vehicles or those with valuables left visible.

Simple steps like locking your doors and securing your belongings can make a significant difference.

If you notice any suspicious activity, such as individuals checking door handles, contact the police immediately.”

The department believes that working together as a community can help lower the number of these incidents and keep Carbondale safer for everyone.
