A member of the Paducah Police Department will be taking over the police department in Carbondale.

The City of Carbondale says Paducah Assistant Chief of Police Anthony Copeland will become the Chief of Police in Carbondale, effective September 2.

Copeland began his career in law enforcement in 2002 with the Baltimore County Police Department in Maryland.

In 2006, he and his family relocated to Western Kentucky, where he joined the Paducah Police Department starting as a patrol officer and then a detective. Since 2018, Copeland has held the role of Assistant Chief of Police.

The search for a new police chief in Carbondale started back in March after former Chief Stan Reno was named the new City Manager in late January.
