Carterville man arrested for hitting a girl with his vehicle

A Carterville girl suffered multiple injuries after she was hit by vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened just after school near Carterville Junior-Senior High School. The girl was flown to a St. Louis area hospital.

The vehicle that hit her left the scene, but police quickly found the driver.

The driver, 45-year-old Joe Uhls of Carterville, was taken into custody and later jailed for leaving the scene of an accident causing great bodily harm.
