Carbondale City Manager Gary Williams is resigning from his post at the end of this month.
In a written release, Williams said after more than eight years in this position, the toll the job took on him personally and professionally has led him to determine it's best for him and his family to pursue another opportunity within the region. His resignation is effective March 31.
Williams thanked his colleagues in Carbondale city government for help on projects like rebuilding the downtown, securing $22 million of funding to build a new multi-modal facility, adding miles of bike paths, improving street conditions, attacking sustainability initiatives, and restoring several distressed parks that were transferred to the City in recent years.
He said Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey will be speaking with City Staff this week to evaluate directors that have expressed interest in assuming the Interim City Manager role. The City Council will discuss possible appointments at its March 12 meeting.
The process to find a permanent City Manager will occur at a future date.
