The City of Mt. Vernon has introduced its Lead Service Line Replacement Program.

Mayor John Lewis' office says it's a comprehensive effort aimed at safeguarding the community from the potential health risks associated with lead in service lines.

To comply with E-P-A regulations, the City will soon be issuing an informational public notice to residents. It will provide more details about the Lead Service Line Replacement Program and the steps the City will be taking to replace the necessary lines. The project is set to start in 2026 and is estimated to span over a 10-year period.

In 2023, the City conducted a cross-connection and service line material survey to discover the types of materials used in the service lines across Mt. Vernon.

The responses were compiled into a comprehensive Lead Service Inventory Report, which is now available for public viewing on the city’s official website.
