The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has kicked off a traffic safety campaign targeting impaired and dangerous driving in the lead-up to Labor Day. Running from August 16 through the early morning hours of September 3, the campaign features high-visibility enforcement to curb hazardous behaviors, such as driving under the influence, distracted driving, and failure to wear seat belts.
With slogans like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket,” the Sheriff's Office is emphasizing the importance of making smart decisions behind the wheel. Sgt. Ronald Stanton highlighted that while voluntary compliance is the goal, drivers can expect strict enforcement of all traffic laws. “We want our community to understand the importance of safe driving practices on Labor Day and every day,” Stanton said.
The Sheriff's Office is working in collaboration with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state as part of this coordinated effort. The campaign also focuses on the “Click It or Ticket” initiative, stressing that buckling up is the single most effective way to protect yourself in a crash. Drivers are urged to always wear seat belts, designate a sober driver, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or other substances.
