Police warn of the repercussions of school threat hoaxes

Area law enforcement agencies are starting to express frustration over a string of school violence threats at several southern Illinois school districts in recent days.

One of the latest threats at Carrier Mills High School resulted in the the Carrier Mills Police Department posting on social media that these types of threats waste valuable resources on a hoax.

Officers say it's imperative juveniles and adults NOT FORWARD this type of information on Social media. They say should instead immediately notify local law enforcement and the school district who will immediately investigate to determine if it is credible. These posts are very detrimental to the students and school staff and threaten valuable school time.

The police department stress they will investigate every threat and in no way are suggesting not to notify them, but juveniles sending these messages online are troublesome and will result in arrests in the future.
