The Illinois Department of Labor’s OSHA division has released a new fact sheet outlining the most common safety violations found in water and sewer departments across the state.
Among the top issues: lack of confined space permits, improper respirator testing, blocked electrical panels, missing exit signs, and poorly maintained fire extinguishers and eyewash stations.
IL OSHA says many of these risks can be reduced with better training, written procedures, and routine maintenance.
The fact sheet is aimed at helping municipal departments close safety gaps and protect workers in high-risk environments.
