ON THIS DAY in 1981 Sandra Day O'Connor sworn in as the 1st female US Supreme Court Justice.

Locally,

A Course on the Confessions of St. Augustine is being offered at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Carbondale. The course will be taught by recently retired Episcopal priest, Fr. Dale Coleman. The class will meet on Thursdays, beginning from 5:00 to 6:00 pm for 8 consecutive Thursdays. This will be an intellectual presentation of the Christian Faith. Attendees are asked to bring their own copy of the book which will be available at Confluence Books in Carbondale. For more information, call Fr. Coleman at 618-789-3723.

 
Hispanic Heritage Month community concert on September 26th from 4-7 pm at the Carbondale Public Library, located at 405 West Main Street. The event will feature a performance by the Latin Grammy award-winning duo, 123 Andres, as well as a bilingual story time and a dance performance by Latin Dance Flow.

 
In Downtown Cape Girardeau, celebrate the fall season at the 3rd Annual Riverfront Fall Festival. It is coming up on Saturday, October 19 from 11am – 6pm. Activities will take place on the Kellerman Foundation Parking Lot, Water Street, Themis Street, and Riverfront Park along the floodwall on. Shop artisan vendors, enjoy kids’ activities, and live music from 5 great bands.
