ON THIS DAY in 1995 Comet Hale-Bopp is discovered and becomes visible to the naked eye nearly a year later.

 

The SIU FOUNDATION invites you to a Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the SIU Credit Union Trailhead at SIU's Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center. The ceremony will be held tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. The public is welcome and there will be a reception with light refreshments immediately following the ceremony.

 

The Illinois Department of Employment Security and Man-Tra-Con Corporation are hosting a summer job fair to be held in Marion. The job fair will be Tuesday, July 29, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Pavilion in Marion. Job seekers are urged to have their resumes online at www.Illinoisjoblink.com and be ready to speak with local employers.

 

In Carbondale, Confluence Books presents author & radio host Heather O’Malley for a reading and book signing on Sunday, July 27 at 2 pm. O’Malley can often be heard on WDBX’s weekly talk radio show “Isn’t It Queer”. A transgender lesbian, she has been writing stories since fifth grade. O’Malley is an Army Veteran who “got injured, traveled the world, learned a number of languages, failed epically, found true love, went to a lot of schools, got a master’s in English, was an activist, taught, learned several martial arts, figured out how to cook, tried most everything, and became a proud grandmother. It has been exhausting.”
