SIU Trustees will consider tuition, fees at April meeting

The Board meets Wednesday and Thursday in Carbondale

SIU Trustees will consider tuition and fees for the next academic year at their meeting this week in Carbondale.

The proposal calls for no change in costs for new and returning students at SIUC, but a 2.9% bump in tuition for new students at SIU Edwardsville, and a similar increase in fees for all students on that campus.

Despite the increase on one campus, SIU President Dan Mahony says the system's costs for students and parents is still at or below average - and points out the vast majority of students receive grants, loans, or scholarships to bring the pricetag down.

"Most students, either between merit scholarships, need-based support - whether it's MAP, Pell, or often both, there's actually a small percentage that pay that full tuition and fees without any type of scholarship or grants."

Special tuition rates and fees or specialized programs may change, as well, based on the needs of those individual campuses and departments.

The SIU Board meets Wednesday and Thursday at SIU Carbondale.
