The Illinois Housing Development Authority Board has approved 19-million dollars to support affordable housing and community revitalization efforts across the state.

Many southern Illinois communities are receiving funds through the Strong Communities Program for the acquisition, maintenance, rehabilitation, and demolition of abandoned residential properties.

This includes $484,000 in Carbondale; $357,000 in Centralia and $120,000 in Dongola.

The program aims to rehabilitate vacant residential properties and provide funds for demolition in cases where properties are beyond repair and negatively impacting neighboring residences.
