The Illinois Department of Transportation is announcing the second official notice of funding opportunity through the Illinois National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which will provide roughly $24 million for the construction of charging stations across the state.
The second round of funding aligns with Gov. JB Pritzker’s goal to have 1 million electric vehicles by 2030.
Selected locations will have at least four fast-charging ports, each of which can fully charge a typical EV in less than 30 minutes. When complete, these projects will provide access to fast charging at least every 50 miles along all Illinois interstates.
To explain the funding opportunity and how to apply, IDOT is hosting an informational webinar Thursday at 2 p.m. A recording of the webinar also will be posted to the site for reference throughout the application period.
Applications for funding must be submitted by December 17 at 11:59 p.m.
Awards are anticipated to be announced in early 2025.
