The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is sponsoring a free, one-day household chemical collection event.
The event will be held at the Banterra Center, south parking lot on Saturday, June 24. Illinois residents can safely drop-off waste at the site from 8am – 3pm by appointment only.
Items to be accepted at the collection include paint thinner, aerosols, household cleaners, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, motor oil, antifreeze, old gasoline, rechargeable batteries, solvents, polishes, pool chemicals, lawn chemicals, oil-based and acrylic paint. Fluorescent light bulbs and expired medications will be taken as well. A list of items that will NOT be accepted can be seen at www.jchdonline.org
To participate in the event, residents must schedule an appointment on the website above or by calling the Jackson County Health Department at 618-684-3143, ext 128.
