Ameren upgrades pipeline in Herrin

Ameren

Ameren Illinois is replacing 1960's era natural gas steel pipeline in Herrin and upgrading it to new corrosion-resistant polyethylene material.

Ameren Illinois crews started working on August 4 to upgrade 2.75 miles of pipeline and upgrade the service pipelines for approximately 240 customers.

The route includes running east to west from 18th through 22nd streets and north to south from West Walnut to Stotlar Road.

Justin Doerr, Director of Gas Operations for Ameren Illinois, says this is the best time of year to make these needed upgrades so the utility can meet the energy needs of its customers in Herrin.

Construction on this estimated $1.5 million project should be completed in 2026, weather permitting.
