The Carbondale Police Department is now accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy (CPA). This program aims to foster positive relations and enhance communication between the police and the community through education. By developing a core group of responsible, well-informed citizens, the CPA hopes to influence public opinion about police practices and services. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by law enforcement and have the opportunity to provide feedback and voice their concerns directly to the police.

The academy is free and open to all interested individuals, though all applicants must undergo a background check. Applications are due by Monday, September 23rd, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. To apply, complete the secure online form or pick up an application in person at the Carbondale Police Department, located at 501 South Washington Street. For any questions regarding the academy, contact Randy Mathis at 457-3200 ext. 402 or via email at rmathis@explorecarbondale.com. Participation in the Citizens Police Academy is not part of the hiring process for becoming a Police Officer with the City of Carbondale.

The Carbondale Police Department's mission is to work in partnership with the community to preserve life, protect human rights, safeguard property, and improve the quality of life through fair, sensitive, and professional police services.
