Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs' office selected Justin Dentmon for award

Carbondale's Justin Dentmon will be honored for his work in athletics during a special Black History Month celebration later this week.

Dentmon will be among honorees celebrating with Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs. He's being recognized for "Outstanding Achievement in Sportsmanship" for his work in founding the Justin Dentmon Athletic Center in Carbondale.

The Carbondale native, who played in the NBA and for professional basketball teams overseas, returned home in 2016 to found the Dentmon Center, which provides athletic training and opportunities for youth from around southern Illinois.
