A Franklin County man is headed to prison after admitting to price gouging an elderly Carbondale resident.

The Jackson County State's Attorney's office says 53-year-old Jack Stanley of Orient was sentenced to nine years for Financial Exploitation of an Elderly Person following a guilty plea.
On September 24, 2015, Detectives with the Carbondale Police Department - assisted by Shawnee Alliance for Seniors - investigated a claim that Stanley had been charging over-inflated prices for yard and house work being performed for the victim.

During the investigation, a number of bank records were obtained and reviewed. They showed that over a period of three years, Stanley and others charged the victim in excess of $63,000 for simple yard work, such as trimming bushes and trees. The defendant also charged seriously over-inflated prices for simple home repair work, such as painting a shutter or awnings on the victim's home.
