Marion Police Conducting Internal Review of Friday Arrest

Marion Police say they're conducting an internal review, after a video posted to social media raised concerns about excessive force.

The video shows several Marion Police Officers attempting to handcuff a man on the ground. It appears at least one officer hit the man, and another used his Taser on him.

The Police Department issued a statement on Monday - saying the man was arrested Friday for interfering with another investigation. The department says the man approached officers who were responding to another call, and was hostile. They say he had two open bottles of alcohol when officers approached him in the middle of the street, and he attempted to re-enter a nearby bar.

M-P-D says the man was denied entry to the bar, and tried to force his way in, and that's when officers tried to arrest him. They acknowledge "closed-hand strikes" as they tried to subdue him, and then say a Taser was used.

The department acknowledges force was used - they say they're following their Department Directives in conducting the internal review.
