A Chicago man found actively burglarizing a Carbondale business

Carbondale Police responded to a business in the 400 block of North Illinois Avenue for a burglary alarm early Saturday morning.

Officers located the suspect 67 year old Carlos J. Phenix of Chicago in the process of burglarizing the business.

Phenix fled from officers but was eventually captured after a brief foot pursuit. Property belonging to the business was located and returned.

Phenix was charged with burglary and is current being held at Jackson County Jail. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
