One person is in custody after an incident involving guns earlier this week in Carbondale.

Early Monday evening, Carbondale Police responded to the 400 block of East Ashley Street, where they met with a person who said they had been threatened by a group of men with guns.

Officers saw one of the suspects, 18-year-old Kashaad Johnson of Carbondale, displaying a firearm while arguing with a motorist driving through the area. Johnson fled from officers and was captured after a short foot pursuit. Officers recovered the firearm he had.

During the investigation, witnesses directed officers to a residence where Johnson and the other unidentified suspects entered. Officers did not locate the other suspects inside the residence, but they did recover a large amount of firearm ammunition.

Officers arrested Johnson for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Firearms and Firearms Ammunition, and Resisting a Peace Officer.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Carbondale Police Department or CrimeStoppers at 618-549-COPS.
