Heads up for Jackson County drivers — starting Monday, June 2nd, westbound Illinois 149, also known as Walnut Street, will be closed from 5th to 7th Street in Murphysboro. The Illinois Department of Transportation says this closure is needed to reconstruct the westbound lanes and should wrap up by Saturday morning, June 7th.
Eastbound traffic will stay open but be reduced to a single 10-foot lane. Illinois 127 will not be affected, and a marked detour will guide drivers around the work zone.
IDOT urges drivers to stay alert, follow posted speed limits, and avoid distractions near the site.
