Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza visited the Illinois Veterans’ Home at Anna Friday to highlight its renovation project.
Mendoza says the state budget includes right at three million dollars for improvements to the facility in Union County, including the replacement of windows in the residents rooms.
"Those windows will now be able to be opened by you, the residents. I think even something so small gives you more freedom, and you get to decide if you're a little hot and you want to just breathe in some fresh air, open up your window, something you couldn't do before. So, the windows are not only going to give you that ability to be in control of your room, but they're also going to be energy efficient."
Mendoza says the H-VAC units will be updated for more ventilation and the metal doors will be replaced with glass doors to provide more outdoor views.
The work should be completed in 2025.
