The Illinois Department of Transportation is now accepting applications for its Safe Routes to School program, aimed at making walking, biking, or rolling to school safer for students across the state.
The program offers $12 million in federal funding, with up to $250,000 per project. Eligible applicants include schools, nonprofits, and local governments.
Projects can include sidewalk improvements, bike lanes, accessibility features, and safety education. Priority will go to schools with more low-income or disabled students. Applications are due by October 13.
