Helping Hands for the Holidays Winter Resource Fair
Mayor Carolin Harvey and The City of Carbondale invite the Carbondale community to the Second Annual Helping Hands for the Holidays— A Carbondale Community Winter Resource Fair on Thursday, December 11th from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Carbondale Civic Center.
Join us for a festive day of holiday cheer, community connection, free food and giveaways! This FREE event will feature nearly 30 community organizations and agencies offering valuable information about local services and resources to help residents this holiday season and all year long.
Attendees will enjoy complimentary treats and beverages by Cristaudo’s Café and Bakery while they explore the variety of free and low-cost resources available to them. Attendees will also receive a commemorative Carbondale holiday bag while supplies last and have a chance to win door prizes throughout the event.
This City of Carbondale would like to thank all the Carbondale community organizations and agencies that will provide “helping hands” this holiday season. Don’t miss this chance to discover free and low-cost resources, connect with your neighbors, and celebrate the season with your community!

Kitchen Table Singer-Songwriter Concert Series
The Varsity is proud to host the return of the Kitchen Table Songwriter Series, co-produced by Mila Maring and John Reimbold, highlighting the bounty of incredible talent in the region. This season, we’re kicking off Season 2 on Saturday, Nov. 29. This Thanksgiving weekend, after the table is cleared, you and yours are invited to gather round for our opening act, a Songwriters-in-the-Round featuring: Wil Maring, Matt Garrison, and Mac Elliott. Headlining the evening is Lucas Wayne and the Cottonmouths.

Join us to make your very own miniature bookshelf! All materials will be provided by the library, you provide the creativity. Best for ages 8 and up, children under 10 must have an adult stay with them.
Seam to Shining Seam, Q.U.I.L.T.S of Springfield 2026 quilt show
Q.U.I.L.T.S of Springfield is pleased to announce their 2026 quilt show, Seam to Shining Seam on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, 2026.
Our show is being held in the Orr Building at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Gate 9-on 5th St). A map is included on our website www.SpringfieldQuilts.com. The building is equipped with ramps for accessibility, parking is free, and a few wheelchairs will be available for your use at no cost, should one be needed. You may purchase food and drinks at the show and relax in a large seating area while enjoying your lunch or a snack. Our show is the largest in the area with about 400 quilts and quilted items on display and over 1,200 in attendance. In addition, we will have a raffle quilt, Quilts of Valor presentations, bed turnings, demonstrations, quilt appraisals (by appointment), door prizes, many vendors (for non-quilters, too!). A sale of small quilt-related items will benefit a selected charity.

Friends of Marion Carnegie Library Book Sale
The Friends of Marion Carnegie Library will host a book sale on Friday, November 21st and Saturday, November 22nd from 9am to 4pm in the McCoskey Room. Stop by that Saturday from 2pm to 4pm to fill a bag for $5!
Hardback books will be available for $1.00 each and paperback books will be available for $0.25 each. Other items prices will vary.
The Friends of the Marion Carnegie Library is a non-profit organization that helps aid the library and its mission. The Friends support projects and programs at the library through fundraising efforts. Book sales are held to collect funds for future needs. Community members who are interested in becoming a Friend can fill out the registration form below. Membership fees are due each December. Learning in Retirement: Dr. Glenn Poshard to Conduct Poetry Reading to Fight Hunger in Southern Illinois
Dr. Glenn Poshard to Conduct Poetry Reading to Fight Hunger in Southern Illinois. Dr. Glenn Poshard will be the featured presenter at the Wednesday, November 19, meeting of Southern Illinois Learning in Retirement (SILIR). He will read from Poetry for Pantries where he explores life’s biggest questions—love, loss, faith and joy. Dr. Poshard is sharing his poetry to raise funds to fight hunger in Southern Illinois. Contributions to local pantries are appreciated. Dr. Glenn Poshard is a former Illinois State Senator, U.S. Congressman, SIU President, and lifelong public servant. In 1999, he and his wife Jo established the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children, an all-volunteer organization funded entirely by private donations. The SILIR monthly meeting is free and open to the public. The Meeting will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua in Carbondale. The poetry reading begins at 10:30 am.
