Southern Illinois Stitchers
Southern Illinois Stitchers, the local chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc., will meet on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Community Room of the Carbondale Public Library, 405 W. Main Street, Carbondale, IL. Visitors, whether stitchers or those just curious about the needle arts, are most welcome. If you stitch, please bring samples of your work to share. The event is free and open to the public. A Day for Spinal Cord Injury & Conditions Impairing Mobility
The Illinois chapter of the United Spinal Association is hosting a free event to discuss issues that many individuals with differing mobility impairments face daily. Many of the subjects will be relevant to multiple disabilities, and everyone who would like to learn more about these issues is welcome (including family/caregivers of individuals with disabilities). Remote attendance is possible. (Once people register, a Zoom link will be sent to anyone electing to attend remotely.) Lunch is included for those who attend in person.

The event will include speakers on vocational rehabilitation (preparing for/obtaining employment, ADA protections, etc.), service dogs (SIT Service Dogs), wound care, adaptive driving and accessible parking, bladder care/medical complications, and a panel discussion about living with a disability. We will also have a speaker from the SI Center for Independent Living.
Annabelle Festival Book Sale
This is a 3-day book sale beginning on Friday, June 7, for Friends from 4-6pm, and continues with a public sale on Saturday, June 8, from 8am - 2pm. It ends with a bag sale on Sunday from 1-3pm.
Southern Illinois Underground Railroad author speaks
SIU Press author, Carol Pirtle, will talk about her research and book about a 19th century Sparta, IL farmer who participated in the Underground Railroad.
