A southern Illinois elementary school went on lockdown this morning after a person from the neighborhood disrupted the school day.
A message on the Denning Elementary School web page revealed a little after 10 a.m., an individual from the neighborhood was having a mental health episode and began banging on the exterior doors of the West Frankfort School.
After 911 was called, officers arrived and arrested the individual. There was no weapon involved.
School officials spoke with the students to reassure it was safe to resume their normal school day, which happened to be the 100th day of the academic year.
