A teenager is dead and two others injured after a vehicle collided with their horse drawn buggy in Jefferson County.

Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene just before 5 p.m. Monday at Log Cabin Lane and Goshen Road.

They learned a white Dodge van, driven by 32-year-old Katlyn Catron of Ina, struck the horse drawn buggy from behind.

There were three people on the buggy. The driver, 20-year-old Dena Mast of Belle Rive and one of the passengers, 21-year-old Mary Mast, both suffered serious injuries. They were flown to a St. Louis hospital.

The other passenger, 18-year-old Elma Mast, died at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital.

Family of the Masts arrived on scene to assist with recovery and treatment of the horse, which was also injured during the crash.

Catron and her juvenile passenger were not seriously injured in the crash.
