A Carterville man is accused of battering the Mayor of Energy

A Carterville man is accused of battering the Mayor of Energy during an incident early Monday morning.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says a passing motorist physically attacked Energy Mayor Bengi McGee as the Mayor surveyed the community for winter storm damage.

The suspect is identified as John Alexander of Carterville. He has been cited for Aggravated Battery and Threatening a Public Official.

Mayor McGee was transported to Herrin Hospital for treatment of injuries including lacerations to his face and head.
